Huntington Academy of Dance (HAD) offers classes in Classical Ballet, Pointe, Pas de Deux, Variations, Contemporary, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical Jazz, Hip Hop, and Musical Theater. Classes are offered for all ages, toddler to adult, and all levels, beginning to advanced and pre-professional levels. Our highly accredited staff includes professional dancers, university educators, and distinguished members of Cecchetti USA. But more importantly, our teachers share a love of dance and a love of teaching dance! We have been committed to providing quality dance instruction in Orange County for over 45 years.
At Huntington Academy of Dance, we have a ballet curriculum, the Cecchetti Method, that safely trains a dancer from the age of 3 through a professional level. Our method is tried and true. Every year our students are evaluated by national ballet examiners, and our students consistently receive high marks. Our teachers are certified to teach this method and possess a high level of technical skill not only in dance but in teaching dance. Our method consists of building blocks that train a complete dancer who is well-rounded in all movements of ballet. With each level, new movements are introduced so the students learn each step in a successive way, mastering each movement and skill before going on to more advanced steps. You can see by our highest-level students that we produce dancers of the highest caliber who perform beautifully each in their own way.
For the last 45 years, Huntington Academy of Dance has produced beautiful dancers, many of whom have gone on to pursue professional ballet careers with top ballet companies, such as American Ballet Theater, New York City Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Ballet Idaho, Milwaukee Ballet, Silicon Valley Ballet, Alberta Ballet Canada, and Staatsballett Berlin. Many of our dancers have received scholarships to university dance departments and pursued dance in higher education such as UCI, UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCSD, Chapman, CSULB, CSUF, Boston Conservatory, TCU, and more.
Huntington Academy of Dance is proud to be the home of Ballet Etudes, a non-profit youth ballet company dedicated to nurturing dancer’s character development and artistic growth through immersive, exceptional performance experiences. We engage and enrich the community by introducing a new generation to the transformative power of ballet through our outreach programs.
Huntington Academy of Dance is home to Emergent Dance Company, a professional contemporary dance company directed by Megan Pulfer. Emergent brings challenging choreographic work themed on current cultural issues or humanistic expressions through dance. Our pieces are performed in festivals throughout the OC and LA areas. Our mission is to inspire, challenge, and enlighten those in our surrounding communities.
Huntington Academy of Dance also works in partnership with the City of Huntington Beach, Parks & Recreation Department, to offer affordable dance training to the residents of Huntington Beach and surrounding communities through our DANCE HB! program. Our annual summer dance camps sell out every year!
